Waifu Crush Wednesday — Makoto Nanaya

Waifu Crush Wednesday is modeled after the popular “#WCW” or “Women Crush Wednesday”. This bi-weekly editorial focuses upon female characters in gaming, anime, and manga that I happen to like in one form or another. I will do my best to explain my affinity for that particular character.

 Makoto Nanaya

Makoto Nanaya is from the BlazBlue video game series, she first appeared in BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma II.  Makoto is a squirrel beastkin who dealt with many forms of harassment simply because she was different than normal humans (beastkins have animalistic features with human attributes, such as Makoto’s ears and tail).  However, she did find comfort in her friends Tsubaki and Noel, which changed her perspective on people and gave her lifelong friends she would be willing to throwdown her life to protect.

The squirrel-tailed beauty Makoto Nanaya is my favorite female gaming character of all-time and is the most fun I have ever had playing a fighting game character, this is in direct comparison to Cammy White from Street Fighter who I adore but only really care for her playstyle in the Marvel vs Capcom series.  I love Makoto for a variety of reasons; her fighting style, her personality, and her aesthetic.

  • Fighting Style — Makoto is a close-ranged combatant and fights mainly with her fists; though she does use a tonfa, it does not extend her range any.  While being close range is amazing, her real appeal is the archetype I absolutely adore…which is amazing destructive power for someone with such a lithe form (another example is “Mitsuru Bandou, the Cyclops Hammer” from the manga “Air Gear“.  Not to mention she has a move similar to the “Dempsey Roll” as seen in Hajime no Ippo and her “Impact” drive creates the feeling of blows that have a lot of weight behind them.
  • Personality  — Makoto in herself is someone whom I find to be adorable because of her hyperness and eagerness in whatever she is doing; though she is also capable of being deadly serious when her friends are threatened.  Something else that also stands out is her perversion, she is quite the lewd girl who tends to grope, make comments, and also suggestive gesticulation in order to fluster or flirt.  A bit reason behind me adoring her personality is that she is still kind and inviting despite the harassment she received before she met Noel and Tsubaki, you think all of that teasing and discrimination would have made her bitter and hateful but it did not.
  • Aesthetic — Something I have always had a weakness for was the anime girls with the ears/tail (though normally it is Neko or Kitsune), Makoto happened to be introduced with squirrel-like attributes and I had no idea how much I needed that in my life until I saw her.  Not only that, I am a fan of the female body…and I had no idea that underboob was more explicit than just raw cleavage.  She does not seem to be embarrassed despite the fact she has on a thong with a tiny skirt, a jacket which barely covers her massive chest, and a bare midriff…but I am a fan I must admit.  Not only that, she is very cute on top of the obvious sex appeal, which is always a plus.

Makoto Nanaya is a great character whom I absolutely adore, I cannot fret enough about how she is simply “best girl”.  Overall, I am currently playing her in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and will be maining her in every single BlazBlue game that has her in it.  While I do not think I am as obsessed with her as I was when she was first announced, she is still undoubtedly my #1 waifu and has eclipsed the likes of Morrigan Aensland, Cammy White, and anyone else I have been previously gaga for (including my first anime crushes Asuka Shikinami Langley and Ami Mizuno).  Hopefully I get to see more of her in the future and will be able to get those PVC statues of her I managed to miss out on the first time they were introduced, one can only hope, right?
