Thresh was revealed for 2XKO some hours ago! We got a teaser of him at the end of Senna’s trailer, not to mention the 2XKO developers were all changing their profile pictures. It also makes sense that Thresh is releasing alongside Senna since she fought him, got trapped within his lantern, and then learned how to control the Black Mist before escaping.
Below I’ll leave the trailer and as usual, give my impressions. Let’s go!
The very first thing that I noticed and loved is the aesthetic. Since 2XKO was released I have been constantly complaining that there were no “Edge Lord” style characters. The best we currently had was Darius, and that’s mainly because he’s grumpy and seems to be the tough guy type. Thresh seems to be the embodiment of a very edgy character, and laugh and appearance resembles a ton of Dormammu from Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.
As far as Thresh’s fighting style — it’s not something I would normally play, but definitely fits my sensibilities. While he is long range, he does not seem to be of the same cloth as someone like Axl from GUILTY GEAR. Thresh feels more like an aggressive setup character who locks you down for his partner, and puts you in precarious situations for his minions and lanterns.
Some unique things about him is the ability to cancel a normal into jump without it connecting — I do not believe many champions have this ability. Also, he has what feels like a phase forward move, reminiscent of a dash. Ekko has an air hop, Ahri can forward dash from certain normals, and Senna has a dash within Wraith Form (Blitzcrank can do a bit of air movement if he has steam, if that counts). Also, the unique ability to tag an opponent from his lantern, possibly resulting in nasty mix-ups and left/right guessing games.
I also want to point out that I love his Super Move and his Level 3. Typically I hate one or the other, but I am actually feeling both. I did also say this character reminds me heavily of Dormammu from Marvel vs Capcom 3, and his Level 3 very much reminds me of “Dark Dimension” in its presentation.
The only thing this character really needs are some amazing skins — but his current one is already amazing, to be fair. I hate that my computer is messing up considering how amazing this character is and definitely someone I’d play for the long haul. Oh well, sometimes things work that way. Cannot wait to see what people come up with once Thresh is released!
