We’ve gotten bits and pieces of the new Virtua Fighter, but unfortunately nothing concrete or solid in the way of an official release date or project name. While we saw a bit of what could be considered gameplay during the announcement trailer, we were unsure whether-or-not that was in-game footage or simply a conceptual rendering using the engine. Well, we finally get a preview of what they’re working on here!
Check out the video and then get my impressions!
This gameplay displays some absolutely BEAUTIFUL graphics. That’s something that shouldn’t be surprising as I feel like Virtua Fighter 5‘s visuals have aged really well despite that game being over a decade old! The way the training stage comes together and the subtle yet impactful entry of the combatants are nice.
This trailer is cool because it focuses primarily upon the combat and effects; it doesn’t distract you with everything that we’d typically see within a first look. Normally you’d hear the grunts and voice acting, the background full of distractions and bright visuals, and a number of particle effects on each hit with a music soundtrack to match. However, Virtua Fighter is taking an approach which puts their combat at the forefront; I think this is a very nice touch. Like many others, I like what I am seeing; though I wish that the hits were more impactful like TEKKEN 8 or Under Night In-Birth; but maybe that’s because I’m used to the hard hitting thuds given to us now.
I feel like this is a step within the right direction if things follow this beautifully; definitely going to have to find a way to upgrade my PC!
