【Occlude】Launch Trailer & Info

Share This Post:

Those of you who know me, know very well that I leave anything to do with cards. I’ve never been a massive fan of Solitaire, but that’s because I have never had much in the practice of playing and learning it. However, the description of this game by Tributary Games fills with me a bit of wanting to explore their take on it more. Combining the occult with solitaire? Sounds eerie.

Below you’re going to get the full Press Release for “Occlude”, including their release trailer and information. Check it out and be sure to tell me what you think in the comments.

 RELEASE TRAILER

  IMPRESSIONS

This trailer begins with the narrator saying you’ve finally tracked down the game, “Occlude“. Essentially, there was a lot of events that unfolded and this game was the one common denominator between all of them. Slowing down and pausing the game, you see each person seemingly had an action happen in which they regretted their decision, reasoning, or in-action and wanted a chance to course correct. One person said someone was talking about it, the other claims it was a game with The Devil himself, and others seem to think Occlude can play the world itself. Many beliefs, but did they all happen to lose?

The narrator says, “It looks like a game; just a game. But it’s so much more…than“. Stating that this game holds the “Secrets to Reality”; which makes things even more interesting. Not only is there what appears to be a standard deck of playing cards, very neatly drawn with particular imagery and colors for each suit…but also coins and what appears to be tarot. That the game has rules, but they aren’t known to you.

Seems interesting. Let’s get to the Press Release.

 PRESS RELEASE

Developed by Tributary Games (King of the CastleOcclude leans heavily into the occult and mysticism, presenting a narrative card game that intentionally obscures its rule-set. The game presents seven Rituals, each governed by its own Entity, and each asking for a different form of logic.

We wanted the rules of the game itself to be part of the discovery,” explains Tributary Games’ Studio Lead Samuel Partridge, “Occlude takes what you think you know about Solitaire, and then blows things wide open from there. The puzzles and the narrative go hand-in-hand, so as you learn one you also learn the other. We’re incredibly proud of where this journey leads – the last Ritual in particular – and can’t wait to see how players grapple with it.

Embracing feedback from Steam Next Fest, Tributary Games have also added a Story Mode for launch, allowing those who might be more into the Lynchian narrative than the brain-contorting puzzles to jump into a more instantly accessible version of the game.

Occlude is a game stuffed with secrets, and a cerebral, mind-bending narrative that is a puzzle in itself. Players are challenged to piece together the story for themselves from archival documents and scattered hints. This extends to a free ARG that has been running alongside the development of the game. Seven Cards, Seven Rituals is an investigative ARG allowing players to learn more about the world of the game via an evolving, lore-heavy alternate reality experience.
