【ANANTA】Announce Trailer Impressions

When this game was first announced, it was simply going by “Project Mugen”, which I believe was just a placeholder until they figured out what they actually wanted to call this. I find it’s similar to 2XKO which was previously known as “Project L”, and while just like 2XKO I prefer the original name, I do think ANANTA will grow on me eventually.

We’ve been given an official announcement trailer, for at least the namesake and a reintroduction to the video game itself. So I want to take a look at the trailer and just give a few impressions from what I see so far.

  IMPRESSIONS

The first thing that you notice about the game are the graphics; they are very much “HoYoverse” in appearance. However, I am beginning to wonder whether-or-not aesthetics such as these are modeled after other popular gacha or if it’s simply a product of optimizing the best style for anime-styled aesthetics within a 3D space. Think about it, we don’t talk about how every single anime we watch is cell shaded to a massive degree, maybe this type of 3D rendering for characters within the anime style simply gives the best outcome. I am a fan of the lighting of characters, but won’t be sure about the designs until I see more.

I’m not quite able to guess the story or even hint at it from a simple 2 minute trailer like this; you’ve got running toilets, basketball games, web-swinging, car racing, and a lot of partying. While it’s obvious that the bunny girl will be one of the main characters, or at least prominent (she’s also the profile picture for the ANANTA youtube channel), we don’t really know about anyone else as of yet. Seems like it won’t take itself too seriously, considering you even have a few meme content things like the 8-bit glasses, but you never know if they’ll have moments which tug at your heartstrings or not.

ANANTA will be Free-to-Play, so I’ll definitely be checking it out just to see what it offers. However, I am very certainly not head-over-heels in love with what I saw, primarily because the swinging from the first trailer doesn’t seem as prominent and the combat doesn’t look as fun as Zenless Zone Zero. Nothing to do now but wait for more information and see what they’re cooking up for the denizens of Nova City.
