【Mortal Kombat 1】Official Banished Trailer Impressions

During the weekend for “Evolution”, the largest fighting game tournament on the planet, we were greeted to a trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 that appeared right after a segment of Sajam’s “Will It Kill?”. It was cleverly inserted right after a combo from Reptile, considering the contents of the new MK trailer. I’m going to include it below and tell you my thoughts on it.

  IMPRESSIONS

The first thing that this trailer does correct is introducing Reptile. We have had Reptile as a human ninja as well as a reptilian-like combatant within the past; this one seems to combine both of them in order to give players a hybrid of the two. Also, unlike in the past, Reptile doesn’t seem like canon-fodder which will be comically discarded for the sake of the game’s inclusion without actually having much impact as a character or on the plot. Also, it seems as though they’re using the same face model as Nero in the Devil May Cry 5 game, though the voice is different and quite fitting giving the character’s situation presented within the game.

The other two characters are introduced at about equal pacing throughout the trailer, giving a bit of clarity as to each of their backgrounds; Ashrah being a demon with good intentions and Havik being someone who’s intent on spreading “Chaos” regardless of the wishes of those who will have to embrace it. These characters are old favorites from the “3D” area of Mortal Kombat, which most people judge from Mortal Kombat 4 up until the most recent Mortal Kombat 9; Both Ashrah and Havik first made their appearance in Mortal Kombat Deception.

I loved the overhauled appearance of both Ashrah and Havik, including the hybrid fusion of Reptile’s human and non-human appearance. The combat looks even more fleshed out and brilliant, and the Fatalities and Fatal Blows also seem to be up to the standard we’ve come to expect from the Mortal Kombat series. Something I was not too keen on is the animation as well as the story (considering the timeline is reset), but this trailer has given me something to look forward to regarding…well…everything. Good job introducing this particular trailer within the eyes of so many people; you’ve definitely earned yourself a Day 1 purchase from me!
