RNTS-9-BBCTB Tournament Results

Thursday, August 30th marked the 9th tournament for THE REAPER NIGHTMARE TOURNAMENT SERIES | 死神の悪夢トーナメントシリーズ for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle!  15 competitors fought it out to see who would come out on top!  White hot battles were had, L’s were taken, and ultimately there were winner’s but there can only be one Champion!

Definitely the best organized tournament thus far; we normally have a lot of chaos before we reach Top 8 where matches are streamed and recorded one-by-one.  This time with the new match announcement method I created, everything was ran smoothly with zero hiccups and everyone completed their match-ups in an orderly fashion.

Overall the tournament had a lot of good matches and definitely had some “OOOOOO!!” moments.  You will just have to see for yourself!

 TIME STAMPS 

• Nyan_derthal is a competitor we have seen at two other RNTS tournaments, however we had to forfeit himself each time due to a bad connection.  I always liked his strength of character to know something was not right on his end and did not want anyone to suffer because of it.  Showed up and showed out this tournament, he had a very good team of Jubei/Yang (only the second Jubei we have ever seen, the first being ALoserNamedTama).  Team relied on a myriad of side switches and mid-combo/blockstring character changes to confuse the opponents guard and create openings.  Nyan had an undefeated run into Grand Finals, only losing a single game to Tikhaos.  Grand Finals he switched to a team he had not used before with Azrael/Merkava, but was down 1-2 to ALoserNamedTama in Grand Finals before switching back to his original team and winning 3-2.  Congratulations to him being the winner of the 9th tournament!  Oh, he also managed to beat me 5-1 afterwards when we ran matches.
• UGS BBoy Dragon did very well, making his first entrance into the RNTS series.  I was happy he entered because he and I have played a number of matches and he placed within the top 20 for his Evo ranking for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle.  Had very good pressure with his Ruby/Blake team, very good use of Cross Combo in the neutral game.  Unfortunately he lost against ALoserNamedTama 3-2 in the Winner’s bracket and then again to Ethralatheon 1-3 (even though he put this same person into the Loser’s Bracket with a score of 3-1 earlier).  Hope he comes back and does his thing!
• XThe_Bear_ClawX uses a team of Aegis/Gordeau and is the very first Aegis we have ever had in this tournament series.  Unfortunately, he was taken out by Champion Rennikz 3-2 in Loser’s, and before that it was also Rennikz 3-0 in the first round.  Hopefully he comes back, I really admire his play and glad he was able to make it to RNTS!  Returning competitors normally get stronger.
• ALoserNamedTama, one of the veterans here at the RNTS, coming in a heartbreaking 2nd place in RNTS-7-BBCTB after a loss to Champion UnsafeonHitBB.  Did very good with his Yu/Mai team, though he lost in Winner’s Finals Nyan_derthal 3-0 and again in Grand Finals with a score of 3-2.  Overall, this is Tama’s third time coming in 2nd place.
• Rennikz is a veteran in this series as well, also he is a champion.  Did pretty well in Winner’s Bracket but ended up losing 3-0 to Nyan_derthal in the first round of Top 8 Winner’s side.  Unfortunately, he ended up losing in Loser’s Finals to ALoserNamedTama 3-2.  Always did very good, but would have did better if he had optimized punishes with Ragna and working on his neutral game to allow more space control with Kanji’s chair assist and Ragna’s bloodscythe assist.
