The only thing I really know about “Teemo” is what I’ve seen from memes and League of Legends players constant complaints. Since I am not a MOBA player, I don’t understand the significance behind this character, but I know his name lives in infamy and many seethe over his very existence. It makes sense he’s to be added into the game, but I’m always worried about characters with extremely small stature due to their often awkward hitboxes.
Let’s check out the trailer for Teemo, the character that will be released alongside 2XKO‘s transition from Closed Beta to Early Access. I’ll give you my impressions, as always, after the trailer.
The first thing that came to my mind is that his character is ANNOYING. By that, I mean BOTH his personality AND his gameplay style. Zoning is a play style I’ve never particularly liked, but I’ve always deal with it considering it’s a prominent thing within fighting games and a long-time training partner preferred this archetype. As the years have gone by, I’ve gone from a strictly rushdown and grapple-based player to more-or-less a hybrid of everything. However, I still find myself reeling in disgust at purely zoner and trap-based characters (unless it’s Kan-Ra from Killer Instinct).
Teemo himself looks as though he’s got some infuriating things to deal with, especially if Jinx’s ability to runaway was already giving you a plethora of problems. Setting the jungle-area on fire stops people similar to Dormammu’s flame carpet in Marvel vs Capcom 3, and I even see Megaman’s “Beat Plane” super in one of their special moves (around 0:45).
There also seems to be a lot of memes and shoutouts to the League community within this trailer, plus some easter eggs to the FGC. One of the main ones is Evo Moment 37: Justin Wong vs Daigo Umehara in the very end with Teemo vs Vi and Jinx.
This trailer is pretty all right, and this character might end up being cool..but I hate it’s hard to find characters I legitimately like in this game for now. A big piece of it is maybe I’m not a League of Legends player, but I also did not play Dungeon Fighter Online and found PLENTY of characters I enjoyed and thought were amazing in DNF Duel, so maybe it’s not really that. I get that this trailer is a supposed love letter to both communities, but I’m not really feeling it. Maybe once I try him out, I’ll feel differently.
