For those of you who aren’t privy, CAPCOM is holding a 2nd art contest for Street Fighter VI. This contest comes as a result of Street Fighter VI‘s 2nd anniversary, giving talented artists an opportunity to be apart of the game they love. Winning entries will become “Challenger” screens, the illustration which pops up as you receive a match in Fighting Grounds.
ABOUT REIQFor those of you who have not heard of him before, REIQ is a very talented artist whom I’ve personally been following for quite a long time. I first found him on DeviantArt, back when that was still a respectable art website.
I’ve always liked REIQ more-so for his coloring style above all else. It gives a sense of volume and depth I absolutely adore. It’s very unique and can be told apart near instantly. They have a high volume of work you can find on their Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and Personal Website. Consider giving them a follow!
I first saw these illustrations on Facebook; REIQ posted them while saying, “Entries for the #SFartcontest2 , somehow I feel non of mine will be selected, sometimes you can feel it, but just in case! Hope you like them! You can also vote on my Twitter page! Thanks!”
I feel like REIQ has done FANTASTIC work here, with anyone of them having the possibility to become a Challenger screen. The biggest issue I feel possibly holding REIQ back is the “ecchi” factor to most of his work. While CAPCOM understand how raunchy some outfits can be, they do not want to blatantly show them off past a certain level.
Cammy and A.K.I’s illustrations are completely fine, and Kimberly is borderline simply because of what he drew at her waist area; but shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The biggest issue comes with Mai and Juri. Mai being her ass and side-boob being so blatantly shown, even though the outfit is meant for such fanservice. Juri’s is in danger because of how he drew her top (covers less) and also you can see her bottoms; that was something CAPCOM purposely hid.
Out of all of these illustrations, my personal favorite has got to be Juri simply because of the pose, her personality shining through with that facial expression, and emphasizing the fan service that most get due to her feet being front and center.
Regardless, all of these pieces are amazing and I hope that REIQ manages to make one of these a Challenger screen!
