【Rivals of Aether II】Olympia Character Trailer

I never played the first Rivals of Aether, and I’ve only spent some time with the beta of Rivals of Aether II, but enjoyed what I played. My friend Shining sent me this character trailer, telling me that this character was literally “Makoto” from Street Fighter because he knows I sincerely love that character. Therefore, I decided to take a look at Olympia to see if she looked fun to play, and whether-or-not that claim was true.

OLYMPIA CHARACTER TRAILER

  IMPRESSIONS

The beginning of the trailer is lead by the narration of some character; upon further research I find that it’s “Hodan” from the very first Rivals of Aether. There are a myriad of characters shown, one of which is also a character from the first game named “Absa”, to which many within the comments had dismay to them being teased. However, Olympia bursts through the door and this is where our gameplay for the trailer starts.

There is a ton of moves that this character does share from Street Fighter‘s Makoto; the upward punch from Seichusan Godanzuki, her Hayate Dash Punch, Overhand Chop; hell, even her outfit is very similar to a strapped Street Fighter IV alternative costume for the Rendokan Karate practitioner.

Olympia’s fighting style overall seems to be very much within my wheelhouse. They are a close-ranged fighter with what appears to be a gem mechanic; using the Amethyst to inflict a state on opponents which has them neutralized and open to damage or combo starters/enders. It even looks as though Olympia can pick up the amethyst gem after using the effect to possibly inflict another instance. Their ledge recovery seems long range and hard-to-punish, and while their recovery doesn’t appear the best, it’s probably because the characters seems very straight-forward, powerful, and combo-heavy.

While I did enjoy Loxodont within the beta as he reminded me of Ike, his design wasn’t “cool” enough for me, seeing as he was an elephant with a battle axe. Olympia’s oversized amethyst-covered fists remind me heavily of massive gauntlets that are worn by characters like Mika from Under Night In-Birth or Yozakura from Senran Kagura. When this character is finally released, I’ll definitely pick up Rivals of Aether II and give her a go.
