This episode is primarily about Isagi figuring out what propelled him to further evolve to the point he was able to best both Rin and Shidou to score a goal, and Reo strengthening his resolve to remain in Blue Lock by honing his own unique talent.
First off, I am VERY impressed by the conversation that was had between Isagi, Nanase, and Hiori. Isagi’s two teammates not only helped him to further evolve by setting him up and giving him a path to further enhance his abilities, but they were able to help him in the breakdown of exactly what he was doing. The analogy given by Nanase when it comes to Tetris actually makes sense and is a genius way to break down the evolution of Isagi’s abilities.
In Tetris, you have enough time to think about where a block is going to go, but eventually they fall too fast for you to think. However, once you’ve seen a scenario enough times, you’re able to cut down the time needed to formulate a proper move by understanding what is and isn’t possible, and what your next piece and the piece you have in holding will allow you to do. Essentially, Isagi is just doing the same thing he’s always done but just cranking it into a faster speed which allows quicker reactions and real-time decision making without having to remain stagnant. If you’ve ever seen how competitive Tetris can be on NES, then you know that a normal controller cannot move the pieces fast enough to get them into position; a new method called “Rolling” was developed to circumvent this. There will always be challenges presented by either the game or other players, and the inventions of new methods can aid you into breaking perceived barriers by looking for solutions.
I believe Reo completely embodies “Hone your talents”. Reo understands that most everyone else who stands on the field exceeds 100% in some area or another, making them titans within their chosen field. Think of this as in NBA Streets Volume 2 where all stats went to 5, but you could actually push a stat to 6 and get a crown over it, mastering that stat (which can only be on a single stat). However, Reo is able to essentially do anything but never to the point he’s able to reach 100%, only 99%. This means he can do everything to an incredible degree, but he just can’t perform perfect copies, but his flexibility and adaptability means he’s a threat no matter what. “Chameleon” is an animal which is able to blend into their surroundings, but not perfectly, so it’s an amazing analogy.
This week, I was pretty happy with what I saw, especially with the Tetris analogy used for Isagi’s abilities. While I don’t care as much about the other players (such as Reo), it’s interesting to see how everyone finds a way to level up and attack with their own set of tools. The cliffhanger, however, makes me think that Rin will essentially be going up against Isagi if his brother wants to take him out of Blue Lock; but you never know. Things are getting good!
