One of my favorite indie games happen to be a hack-and-slash known as “Assault Spy“. This game features a hilarious plot, fun characters to play, and is heavily inspired by Devil May Cry. I believe it’s a game many would like if they’ve experienced it, but unfortunately for indie games most do not receive the attention they properly deserve due to a lack of awareness they even exist.
Upon finishing Assault Spy, I went to its store page on Steam and seen if the developer, “Wazen”, had created anything else. They hadn’t. However, upon going to their Twitter/X, I saw that they’ve been working on a game as early as April 19th, 2019 (when they first announced they were working on one). Since I finished the game in 2022, I contacted Wazen about possibly interviewing them regarding Assault Spy and the upcoming game that they were working on, but was turned down due to them wanting to focus on development and wait until the promotional period for their new game before doing any such thing. Completely understandable.
Early videos on their Twitter/X showed that they were creating what appeared to be something of a Super Hero/Anime Protagonist style game. A character which could freely fly around, fight opponents bigger than they are, cause damage to the destructible environment, and that some of the scenes features everyday-looking inner cities. The protagonist at the time was a girl with orange hair, who featured thigh highs and a fantastical-type of costume. However, we know now this is either a different character, alternate appearance, or was simply a placeholder for the official design to be finished.
This post officially announced “MIGHTREYA”, and revealed what appears to be the two main characters. The main character with the mask is our hero, and the cat girl in the back is probably their friend/admirer/or someone who simply wants to broadcast Reya’s feats to a broader audience to show how much of a hero she is. At least, this is my guess regarding this but will not know more details until it is released.
To accompany this, more gameplay and a promotional cinematic were shown off. Also the game is available to Wishlist on Steam, so you can head over there to show your support and wait for any upcoming updates from the developer. As someone who has been waiting on this game for quite some time, I’m happy that the development is still underway and is getting closer and closer to a final release. We’ll see if I can get that interview once Wazen hits the promotional period.
