During the biggest fighting game planet in the world, we finally got confirmation of the next installment of the UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH series, known as “UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys: Celes“. While we had heard rumors that this was coming, including official confirmation by someone discovering the copyright, it was cool to see it actually getting a trailer.
While I was happy we finally got a trailer for UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II, I was expecting it to get more of the Melty Blood: Type Lumina upgrade which included new sprites, moves, and stages or maybe even something like Guilty Gear: Strive since Arc System Works would be involved…instead we basically got another expansion similar to other versions of UNIB or how BlazBlue has did all of their iterations. While we got to see some new moves displayed for the cast shown, we also had the same backgrounds as before on display and the music for the trailer wasn’t even a new track. Sure, they hinted at some new characters and mechanics, but I was hoping for something wildly different.
Building upon something already established isn’t a bad thing; considering UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH has only gotten better overtime and the addition of rollback would mean the community could stay alive longer (if they add cross-play along with it). New moves would hopefully be put into place to solve balancing issues characters have or help to cure weak points in already strong ones. I hope that the mechanics do not change too drastically since the game isn’t a complete overhaul, as I really liked the way the GRD and VORPAL systems worked.
From what I could see from a lot of the gameplay we were treated to; they do have new music within the game, a lot of the cast has new artwork (much to my dismay), and everyone does have new moves while operating within a familiar way. There’s really nothing more that can be said considering the gameplay will need to be figured out if it’s better-or-worse once we get better details or get extended hands-on periods with the game. Also, this game undoubtedly has a new storyline, which means the possibility of a new antagonist? No idea, but I guess details like that will be something to look at.
Below I will include further videos for UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys: Celes for you to check out if you’re interested. They’re various ones, so you’re sure to find something which answers some questions you may have!
