  IMPRESSIONS

I’ll be perfectly honest; was not feeling it initially.

I thought starting off with a music video of the boy and girl singing their love for each other was pretty cringe. I’m not a fan at all of this type of cheesy, teenage romance within games. I especially do not like it when it’s between a normal girl and a zombie boy, as this has been done numerous times (“Zombie Love Song” by YourFavoriteMartian, the movie “Warm Bodies”, and even the game “Lollipop Chainsaw”.). I feel like its been overdone. Also, the song being “Stupid Never Dies” kind of gives me a vibe of how the game Let it Die‘s theme song is also called “Let it Die”.

I’m always a fan of action games, such as Devil May Cry. The problem I have with games that are similar to what Stupid Never Dies is doing have other factors which bring you into them. A good example are Senran Kagura and Oneechanbara; which have copious amounts of blood and fan service. I say this because of the type of action game that Stupid Never Dies appears to be.

Devil May Cry focuses upon difficult swarms of enemies, while maybe not as numerous, are challenge-worthy and are made for combos. This game seems more like a musou; not quite as intense as something along the lines of Dynasty Warriors but similar in application of the two games I named above; Senran Kagura and Oneechanbara. I am hoping that it provides fun and challenge which makes you want to get better at the core system mechanics rather than being a one-sided slaughterfest where you’re going against mindless enemies.

Overall, I’ll be keeping an eye on this game because it has potential. I love the aesthetics and character designs, and it is made by people someone who worked on Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma, and Resident Evil. So they understand everything that’s going into this game; Hack n’ Slash/Action, Role-Playing elements, and horror aesthetics. Please be good!
