【DAN DA DAN】Episode 24 Impressions

This episode proved to be the climatic battle between everyone and the Kaiju. While many do not like Kinta “The End of Joytoy Pegasus” Sakata, he did come in clutch with this entire battle. From the creation of the giant Mecha Buddha to being able to control, repair, and fight, he was the sole reason that things turned out the way that they did. Sure, others had their parts to play, but this guy was able to create the foundation necessary to win this entire thing.

One thing I liked was how they included the special powers for both Momo and Aira, using Silky’s hair and psychic powers to battle with the mecha to deal a divisive blow to end the battle. I think things would have been too plain with just Kinta fighting, but allowing him time to shine in a solo moment of battle against the Kaiju saw his imagination and dedication to his passion shine.

I know that Kinta is more-or-less a comic relief character and is shown to be an otaku that’s a bit deplorable; Kinta is honestly someone who burns with a fiery passion and is very confident within himself despite the constant surge of berating for his hobbies. I’m just hoping that, if he becomes a mainstay character like Aira or Jiji, that his personality becomes more grounded and rational while keeping his passion burning for his hobbies.

The ending revealed something I wasn’t quite expecting, and that’s a pretty cute alien girl within the Kaiju. It seemed to be a suit, but definitely a battle one which grants abilities to the user in the form of fighting prowess and invisibility. Why did she wind up kissing Okarun at the very end? Well, I’m thinking it’s perhaps that she either believes he’s attractive, it’s a custom from where she’s from, or it’s a ploy to convince everyone that she’s no longer a threat. Regardless of whatever it is, I can tell it’s going to be fireworks during the first episode of Season 3.

Momo already caught Aira trying to kiss Okarun before, this is what lead her to follow him during lunch break to make sure something similar didn’t happen again during a previous episode in Season 1. We see her constantly weary of Aira due to how openly she displays her affection, and even called her a skank multiple times due to her advances. Now that someone else has entered the picture and actually locked lips, we see her forming one of those shapeshifting cubes into a heart and crushing it, while simultaneously making the house explode behind her due to the influx of emotions she’s experiencing.

While I found the last episode to be completely underwhelming compared to Season 2, I do find that the cliffhanger is better than the previous one since it’s more-or-less something that affects the dynamic of the relationship between the two main characters versus an unsettling confrontation. Overall, I found this to be a good episode with a twist which guarantees some interesting interactions at the start of DAN DA DAN‘s next season.
