【DAN DA DAN】Episode 23 Impressions

You never really know what you’re going to get with DAN DA DAN, and that invisible enemy transforming into a full blown Kaiju definitely wasn’t on my list of things to happen. However, expecting the unexpected is all apart of the game. Considering the size of this monstrosity, it’s one of those things that makes you wonder how exactly the gang is going to be able to overcome the seemingly impossible situation.

You’ve got the usual suspects – Momo, Okarun, and Aira – battling against this building-sized kaiji with the ability to turn invisible and shoot electricity. Considering the tone of the episode, I’m guessing it takes place within an alternate reality like when they were battling Nessy and the Sumo-like alien. Considering that, I’m pretty sure that the destruction and the craziness happening won’t be reflected within the real-world (which is a nice touch to create scenarios like this while keeping collateral damage to a minimum and others not finding out about the main groups abilities).

The only thing I thought during the battle that took place was that Aira was absolutely AMAZING. If you consider the three, she feels the most capable. Whether fighting or taking care of herself, she seemed the most adept at handling the kaiju and makes you wonder about her declarations as “leader”. Momo’s power is her natural ability, albeit cultivated by her grandma through years of training she did not quite understand yet. Okarun’s power is borrowed from Turbo Granny and he cannot fully access the scope of its abilities due to his inexperience, weakness, and lack of familiarity. On the other hand, Aira was gifted her powers within their entirety and seems to have fairly good control of them due to how she was raised. If you look at it, Aira is sort of a mix between both Okarun and Momo.

Towards the end of the episode, I had no real idea what they were going to do since this thing’s size and raw power were just way too much for three people to deal with. Also, Evil Eye wanting to fight posed a significant problem, but seems to actual respect and follow the group not wanting to for the moment. Though, the craziest thing that occurred was the usefulness of Kinta Sakata.

Though this otaku started off with an envious attitude towards Okarun, Kinta proved useful due to his nerd obsessions the same way our protagonist does. Momo’s house was destroyed due to Evil Eye’s rampaged and was rebuilt, it is now composed of materials able to warp themselves into shapes and forms of the users desires. Considering everything, Kinta used his imagination to turn the house into a massive mecha, one able to battle the kaiju. Though it does look massively like a Buddha, but that’s thanks to Momo’s intervention. I think the hilarious screw-up will provide tons of comic relief with the epic battle about to unfold; definitely going to be an episode looking forward to! Cannot wait for Episode 24!
