【Starsand Island】NPC Affection System Trailer

I’ve never heard of this game, but I will check out anything if it has anime-style aesthetics, hence it being my niche. Reading the Press Release, it already doesn’t seem like my type of game do to it being a Sim, and the trailer showing a few things which remind me of Animal Crossing. However, this trailer was showing off the “Affection System”, and anything which warrants you an NPC-romantic relationship is something I’d keep my eyes peeled for.

Let’s check out the trailer below and I’ll give you my impressions on what we see.

 NPC AFFECTION SYSTEM TRAILER

  IMPRESSIONS

Immediately I can tell this game is very much a Sim due to the focus upon mundane tasks; such as fishing, building, replication, and wildlife catching. However, the biggest focus upon this trailer are the interaction with the NPC companion and some of the events you can do together with them.

Considering the image at the end of the trailer, there seems to be at least two other girls besides the one featured in the trailer; but the focus of this particular one seems to be someone named “Pastelle”. As the central focus upon this trailer, let’s see what Starsand Island is offering us and comment about what we see.

First off, there seems to be some type of 5-point system featuring the hearts. I’m guessing that the more you build “affection” and rapport, the more that these fill up. I’m guessing it’s simply by basic interaction, as well as doing some quests for the particular NPC (We see our MC giving a chicken of Pastelle’s 5 bugs, which looks to be a mission that was given). I’m guessing that for every major heart an event or cutscene might take place, deepening the connection between both. Though, there could also be events related to the time-of-day, seasons, special events, and other particular things which are tied more so to opportunity and relevance to the game’s system rather than the NPC’s direct affection (but might impact it).

By the end of the trailer, it seems as though Pastelle is actually living with us, hinting at the ability to establish long-term romantic relationships. However, no idea if this is monogamous in nature or if we have the ability to swoon multiple others simultaneously. More so than that, I am hoping that we didn’t spoil most of what Pastelle’s relationship has to offer; such as us sharing a swing, confessing to each other by laying down, or seeing a shooting-star shower whilst sitting on the roof together.

I am generally not a fan of these games, but having a romantic interest or several has got me gauged. I’m a softie at heart for things of this nature and the easygoing climate that comes with them. Perhaps I can use this as a feel-good, wind-down game or something relaxing to ease the stress of day-to-day life. The graphics and current presentation has me very interest, and I will keep my eyes peeled for further news regarding Starsand Island.
