Something that has become a mainstay in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime since Season 3, Stardust Crusaders, is variations of the opening cinematic dependent on what happens in the story. This happened in Stardust Crusaders when we finally got to see what DIO’s stand power was, making him stop time in the opening scene of “End of the World”; In Diamond is Unbreakable, the entire sequence of the “Great Days” opening reversed itself due to Kira acquiring a 3rd stand ability which involved him reversing time.
The variant opening of Golden Wind‘s second op, “Uragirimono no Requiem” sported several changes from its original. The first we saw was Doppio transform into Diavolo, something that makes sense considering how he does the “ringing” animation as if he’s hearing a phone, but this actually shows the “boss” taking over. The second is, before the conflict he has with Giorno, Diavolo actually uses King Crimson’s ability to get behind him and states some eerie monologue in Italian before the fight resumes. The most important thing is that that Diavolo is no longer cloaked in shadow either, rather he is showed fully when combating Giorno’s stand.
I felt this opening was really good, I do not think it will be nearly any valiant opening as incredible as Stardust Crusader‘s, but it was great nonetheless. I am also sad to say I nearly skipped over this opening; I was trying to move ahead and let go too early, realizing that Diavolo had transformed from Doppio let me know the opening changed, to which I immediately did the Kira and rewound it to the very beginning.
Not much really happened in this episode by way of action, though it was an enjoyable episode nonetheless.
The main point of this episode is showing the effects that Silver Chariot Requiem had on everyone; namely the fact they fell into a deep sleep, awoke, had swapped bodies, and their stands are powered up compared to what they once were. Polnareff told them exactly who he was, the reason he called them there, and why everything played out as wonky as it did due to him having no other options since Diavolo had made it there before anyone else and him having the power of the arrow would prove disastrous.
The most hilarious moment of the entire episode happened to be when Mista realized that he was in Trish’s body and her reaction to being in Mista’s body. It was funny to see Mista constantly touching himself (well, Trish), to find that he had ALL the physical charms of a woman. Trish on the other hand, she was not at all impressed about how “manly” Mista was; neither his smell, the gunk under his fingernails, or generally anything else about being a man. The other reactions were all decent, but this one really took the cake.
Looking forward to the next episode since Bucciarati managed to snag Diavolo’s body, meaning that the boss is in his near-death one. I am wondering how they will deal with the knowledge Polnareff gave to them, and whether-or-not Polnareff will die once they take the arrow from Chariot Requiem since he is technically already did (or will he stay in the turtle’s body instead).
