Was scrolling through YouTube while being at my 9-to-5 job, and came across the trailer for this anime on Crunchyroll’s official channel. The title instantly got me interested considering I love romantic comedy, especially those which feature the possibility of multiple love interest for otaku main characters.
Let’s check out the trailer and I’ll give you my impressions!
Watching the trailer, it seems that our MC’s (Seo Takuya) default nickname is “Otaku-kun”, which is very fitting considering the title of the anime. This is either going to be a romantic comedy or a harem; possibly both. This is definitely an anime that interests me.
They describe all the characters within the trailer; Seo Takuya considers himself a non-typical anime otaku since he primarily focuses upon female-oriented anime, Ijichi Kotoko is considered a “stereotypical” gal, while Amane Kei is viewed as a “stuck up” gal. Essentially, we have a baseline for how everyone is supposed to be viewed, but I gather a couple of other things from how the trailer unravels itself.
Seo Takuya considers the girls to be out-of-his-league, considering he mentions that they “live in a different world”. They paint Ijichi as someone who has no sense of personal boundaries or distances and seem to be an extreme extrovert. Amane appears to have a tough personality, but it feels more-or-less a facade as she is constantly blushing and shy, a direct opposite of this “stuck up” persona and seems more akin to a tsundere.
My prediction is that the Gal pair take an interest within Seo due to a kind gesture he does, or notices his interest aligns with one of theirs. Essentially Ijichi does what most extroverts do and “adopt” an introvert; forcing him to participate in social events and friendship bonding in ways he would not before. I believe this will make him open up, and in turn causes Amane to break down her wall and allow her softer, more sensitive side through. I think Ijichi will also experience emotions, possibly as someoen who is really sad and covers it well with her outwards enthusiasm; but who knows?
Either way, I’m happy with the look of this anime and cannot wait until it releases in Spring!
